About the Course

This course gives operators the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a wheeled 360 excavator above 10 tonnes, often referred to as a Rubber Duck.

Training is practical and covers travelling, manoeuvring, excavation, loading and grading, together with the additional considerations involved when operating a wheeled excavator.

• Operator responsibilities and safe working practices
• Machine components and controls
• Pre-use checks and defect reporting
• Tyres, axles and steering systems
• Safe access and egress
• Travelling and manoeuvring
• Operating on varying ground conditions

• Setting up correctly for excavation

How Will You Be Tested?

The assessment will depend on whether you choose CPCS, NPORS or in-house certification.

You will normally be assessed on both your theoretical knowledge and practical operating ability.

The practical assessment can include:

• Completing pre-use checks
• Preparing the wheeled excavator for work
• Travelling and manoeuvring
• Operating over different ground conditions
• Manoeuvring in restricted areas
• Setting the machine up for excavation
• Excavating to specified dimensions
• Loading material
• Backfilling, grading and levelling
• Parking and shutting down correctly

Choose Your Certification

CPCS A59B
For operators requiring CPCS certification for a wheeled 360 excavator above 10 tonnes.

NPORS N202
NPORS 360 Excavator training and testing for wheeled machines above 10 tonnes, with traditional and CSCS-logo card routes available depending on your requirements.

In-House Training
Suitable for employers who require wheeled excavator or Rubber Duck operator training and certification without a CPCS or NPORS card.

Course Requirements

Novice Operators

No previous wheeled excavator operating experience is required.

Experienced Operators

You should already have practical experience operating a wheeled 360 excavator or Rubber Duck.

Test-Only Candidates

You should be a competent and experienced operator capable of completing the assessment without additional training.

Candidates should bring suitable PPE and any identification or documentation requested when booking.

CSCS & Health and Safety

Candidates requiring a CPCS card or NPORS card displaying the CSCS logo will need to meet the relevant health and safety requirements.

This may include holding a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test, depending on the certification route selected.
