Telehandler Suspended Load

Telehandler Suspended Load

CPCS A17E | NPORS N138 | In-House Training

Entra Training provides Telehandler Suspended Loads training and testing for experienced telescopic handler operators who need to safely lift, travel with and place suspended loads.

This course is designed as an additional lifting operations qualification for operators who are already competent in the use of a telehandler.

Training Options

  • Experienced operator: 1–2 days
  • Test only: Available for suitably experienced operators
  • CPCS A17E
  • NPORS N138
  • In-house certification

About the Course

Using a telehandler to handle a suspended load introduces additional hazards and stability considerations compared with normal fork-mounted load handling.

This course develops the knowledge and practical skills required to correctly configure a telehandler for suspended loads and safely lift, travel with and place loads using an approved lifting attachment.

What Will You Learn?

Training can include:

  • Operator responsibilities during lifting operations
  • Pre-use and lifting-related checks
  • Telehandler stability
  • Ground conditions
  • Suspended-load lifting attachments
  • Approved lifting points
  • Rated capacity and load charts
  • Effects of boom extension and working radius
  • Load weight and centre of gravity
  • Dynamic stability and load swing
  • Configuring the machine for lifting
  • Correct use of stabilisers where fitted
  • Communication with a Slinger Signaller
  • Picking up suspended loads
  • Controlling load movement
  • Travelling with suspended loads
  • Placing loads accurately
  • Blind lifts and communication
  • Safe shutdown and attachment removal

How Will You Be Tested?

The assessment will depend on whether you choose CPCS, NPORS or in-house certification.

Candidates will normally be assessed on both their theoretical knowledge and practical ability to safely handle suspended loads with a telehandler.

The practical assessment can include:

  • Completing pre-use and lifting checks
  • Fitting the correct suspended-load attachment
  • Configuring the telehandler for lifting
  • Interpreting the appropriate load chart
  • Positioning the machine correctly
  • Picking up a suspended load
  • Controlling load swing
  • Travelling with a suspended load
  • Working with a Slinger Signaller
  • Placing loads accurately
  • Completing a blind lift
  • Safely removing and securing attachments

Choose Your Certification

CPCS A17E
For experienced telehandler operators requiring the CPCS Suspended Loads endorsement.

NPORS N138
NPORS Telescopic Handler Suspended Loads training and assessment for operators who need to lift and transport suspended loads.

In-House Training
Suitable for employers who require additional telehandler suspended-load training without a CPCS or NPORS card.

Course Requirements

Experienced Operators

Candidates should already be competent and experienced in operating a telehandler before attending this course.

The course is designed to develop the additional skills required for suspended-load operations, rather than teaching basic telehandler operation.

Test-Only Candidates

You should already have practical experience using a telehandler to:

  • Configure the machine for suspended loads
  • Use lifting attachments
  • Interpret suspended-load capacity information
  • Pick up and control suspended loads
  • Travel with suspended loads
  • Work with a Slinger Signaller
  • Place loads accurately and safely

Candidates should be capable of completing the required assessment without additional training.

Slinger Signaller Requirements

Suspended loads should normally be attached and controlled by a suitably trained and competent Slinger Signaller.

Where the telehandler operator is also expected to sling or attach the load themselves, they should have the appropriate training and competence to carry out that role.

CSCS & Health and Safety

Candidates requiring a CPCS card or NPORS card displaying the CSCS logo will need to meet the relevant health and safety requirements.

If you are unsure which certification or card route you require, Entra Training can advise you before booking.

Training Location

Courses are delivered through Entra Training in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.
