About the Course

This course gives operators the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a tracked 360 excavator below 10 tonnes.

Often referred to as a mini excavator or mini digger, these machines are widely used across construction, groundworks, utilities, landscaping and civil engineering.

Training is practical and covers travelling, manoeuvring, excavation, loading, backfilling and grading.

How Will You Be Tested?

The assessment will depend on whether you choose CPCS, NPORS or in-house certification.

You will normally be assessed on both your theoretical knowledge and practical operating ability.

The practical assessment can include:

• Completing pre-use checks
• Preparing the excavator for work
• Travelling and manoeuvring
• Operating over varying terrain and inclines
• Manoeuvring in restricted areas
• Setting up for excavation
• Excavating to specified dimensions
• Loading material into a vehicle or hopper
• Backfilling
• Grading, spreading and levelling material
• Parking and shutting down correctly

CPCS A58A
For operators requiring CPCS certification for a tracked 360 excavator below 10 tonnes.

NPORS N202
NPORS 360 Excavator training and testing for tracked machines below 10 tonnes, with traditional and CSCS-logo card routes available depending on your requirements.

In-House Training
Suitable for employers who require mini excavator or tracked excavator operator training and certification without a CPCS or NPORS card.

Course Requirements

Novice Operators

No previous excavator operating experience is required.

Experienced Operators

You should already have practical experience operating a tracked 360 or mini excavator.

Test-Only Candidates

You should be a competent and experienced operator capable of completing the assessment without additional training.

Candidates should bring suitable PPE and any identification or documentation requested when booking.

CSCS & Health and Safety

Candidates requiring a CPCS card or NPORS card displaying the CSCS logo will need to meet the relevant health and safety requirements.

This may include holding a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test, depending on the certification route selected.
