Entra Training provides Wheeled Loading Shovel training and testing at our training centre in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

Courses are available for complete beginners, experienced loading shovel operators and candidates who are ready to go straight to test.

About the Course

This course gives operators the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a wheeled loading shovel.

Training is practical and covers travelling, manoeuvring, loading, stockpiling, moving materials and working safely around vehicles and other plant on construction, quarrying, recycling and earthmoving sites.

What Will You Learn?

Training can include:

  • Operator responsibilities and safe working practices
  • Machine components and controls
  • Pre-use checks and defect reporting
  • Safe access and egress
  • Travelling and manoeuvring
  • Operating on slopes and rough ground
  • Machine stability
  • Safe use of the bucket
  • Extracting material from a bank or stockpile
  • Creating and maintaining stockpiles
  • Loading vehicles and hoppers
  • Spreading and levelling materials
  • Working safely around other plant and vehicles
  • Visibility and reversing precautions
  • Quick-hitch systems and attachments
  • Parking and shutdown procedures

How Will You Be Tested?

The assessment will depend on whether you choose CPCS, NPORS or in-house certification.

You will normally be assessed on both your theoretical knowledge and practical operating ability.

The practical assessment can include:

  • Completing pre-use checks
  • Preparing the loading shovel for work
  • Travelling and manoeuvring
  • Operating on slopes and rough terrain
  • Manoeuvring through restricted areas
  • Extracting material
  • Creating or maintaining a stockpile or ramp
  • Loading material into a vehicle
  • Spreading and levelling material
  • Cleaning and tidying the work area
  • Parking and shutting down correctly

Choose Your Certification

CPCS A21
For operators requiring CPCS certification to operate a wheeled loading shovel.

NPORS N209
NPORS Loading Shovel training and testing, with traditional and CSCS-logo card routes available depending on your requirements.

In-House Training
Suitable for employers who require loading shovel operator training and certification without a CPCS or NPORS card.

Course Requirements

Novice Operators

No previous loading shovel operating experience is required.

Experienced Operators

You should already have practical experience operating a wheeled loading shovel.

Test-Only Candidates

You should be a competent and experienced operator capable of completing the assessment without additional training.

Candidates should bring suitable PPE and any identification or documentation requested when booking.

CSCS & Health and Safety

Candidates requiring a CPCS card or NPORS card displaying the CSCS logo will need to meet the relevant health and safety requirements.

This may include holding a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test, depending on the certification route selected.

Courses are delivered at the Entra Training plant training centre in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.
