This course gives operators the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a crawler tractor/dozer.
Training is practical and covers travelling, manoeuvring, excavating, dozing, forming and grading materials while maintaining machine stability and safe working practices. These activities reflect the current CPCS A34 training standard.
What Will You Learn?
Training can include:
- Operator responsibilities and safe working practices
- Machine components and controls
- Pre-use checks and defect reporting
- Tracks and undercarriage
- Blade types and controls
- Safe travelling and manoeuvring
- Operating on slopes and uneven ground
- Ground conditions and machine stability
- Excavating and pushing material
- Forming and maintaining stockpiles
- Dozing and spreading material
- Grading and levelling
- Forming excavations and embankments
- Working to specified levels and tolerances
- Back-blading and finishing
- Parking and shutdown procedures
Current CPCS practical testing includes travelling on inclines and rough terrain, manoeuvring through restrictions, excavating, forming material and reinstating the work area.
How Will You Be Tested?
The assessment will depend on whether you choose CPCS, NPORS or in-house certification.
You will normally be assessed on both your theoretical knowledge and practical operating ability.
The practical assessment can include:
- Completing pre-use checks
- Preparing the dozer for work
- Travelling and manoeuvring
- Operating on slopes and rough ground
- Manoeuvring through restricted areas
- Setting the machine up for work
- Excavating and pushing material
- Forming and grading material
- Working accurately to specified dimensions
- Reinstating the work area
- Parking and shutting down correctly
The current CPCS A34 practical test assesses these core operating activities and safe working procedures.
Choose Your Certification
CPCS A34
For operators requiring CPCS certification for a Crawler Tractor/Dozer. CPCS currently identifies this category as A34.
NPORS N215
NPORS Dozer training and testing, with traditional and CSCS-logo card routes available depending on your requirements. NPORS lists Dozer under category N215.
In-House Training
Suitable for employers who require dozer operator training and certification without a CPCS or NPORS card.
