About the Course

Crusher and Screener training gives operators the knowledge and practical skills required to safely set up and operate mobile or static crushing and screening equipment.

Training is practical and covers machine preparation, safe operation, material processing, controlling material flow and safely completing crushing and screening operations.

What Will You Learn?

Training can include:

• Operator responsibilities and safe working practices
• Machine components and controls
• Manufacturer’s operating instructions
• Pre-use checks and defect reporting
• Travelling and manoeuvring mobile equipment
• Positioning and setting up the machine
• Ground conditions and machine stability
• Emergency stops and safety systems
• Conveyors, hoppers and processing components
• Identifying suitable materials
• Safe interaction with loading plant
• Controlling material flow
• Producing material to the required specification
• Dealing safely with blockages and foreign objects
• Communication with other operators
• Environmental considerations and dust
• Cleaning, shutdown and securing procedures

How Will You Be Tested?

CPCS candidates will undertake the relevant theory and practical tests for the category required.

The practical assessment can include:

• Completing pre-use checks
• Preparing and setting up the machine
• Checking the processing and discharge areas
• Coordinating with loading plant
• Starting the machine correctly
• Processing material safely
• Maintaining an appropriate material flow
• Producing material to the required specification
• Responding appropriately to hazards or blockages
• Cleaning down the working area
• Safely shutting down and securing the machine

Where suitable, candidates requiring both Crusher and Screener categories may be able to complete the categories as part of a combined operation.

CPCS A42 – Crusher
For operators who require CPCS certification to set up and operate crushing equipment.

CPCS A43 – Screener
For operators who require CPCS certification to set up and operate screening equipment.

Crusher & Screener
Operators who work with both types of processing plant can undertake training and testing towards both categories.

Course Requirements

Novice Operators

Suitable for candidates with little or no previous experience operating crushing or screening equipment.

Experienced Operators

You should already have practical experience operating a crusher, screener or similar processing plant.

Test-Only Candidates

You should be a competent and experienced operator capable of completing the CPCS theory and practical assessments without additional training.

Candidates should bring suitable PPE and any identification or documentation requested when booking.

CSCS & Health and Safety

Candidates applying for the relevant CPCS card will need to meet the applicable CPCS health and safety requirements.

This may include holding a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test, depending on your CPCS card route.

Courses are delivered at the Entra Training plant training centre in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.
